Somers Rotary Returns to the 188th Annual Four Town Fair

Some traditions are worth celebrating year after year—and few run deeper in our region than the Four Town Fair. This year the fair returns to Somers September 17–26, 2026, marking its 188th consecutive year, and the Rotary Club of Somers is proud to once again be part of the fun.

The Four Town Fair holds a special distinction as the oldest continuous agricultural fair in Connecticut. Its roots reach back to the winter of 1838–1839, when neighbors floated a simple idea: "Let's have a contest!" People gathered to do just that—and 420 cows and oxen showed up. No one had ever seen so many cows and oxen in one place, and a beloved tradition was born.

The fair takes its name from the four towns that have always shared it: Somers, East Windsor, Enfield, and Ellington. For many years the event moved among various locations across the four towns. Then, in 1960, the fair society—known as the Union Agricultural Society—purchased land in Somers to serve as the permanent home for all future fairs. In 1964, the Society held its first three-day fair so that many more people could attend. Today, the Four Town Fair draws crowds estimated at nearly 20,000 people each year.

As we do every year, the Rotary Club of Somers will be running the Beer Garden, complete with concessions and our famous fresh-roasted peanuts. Stop by to relax, grab a bite, and say hello—it's one of our favorite ways to connect with the community, and the proceeds help fund the local and international service projects our club supports all year long.
