About The Rotary Club of Somers
The Rotary Club of Somers, Connecticut is a group of neighbors, business owners, and professionals who share one simple belief: that we can accomplish more for our community when we come together. Chartered on June 16, 1964, our club has spent six decades serving the people of Somers and the surrounding towns—and joining Rotarians worldwide in the effort to build a better, kinder world. Guided by Rotary's motto, "Service Above Self," we put that belief into action every week through hands-on projects, fundraising, scholarships, and fellowship.
What Is Rotary?
Rotary is one of the world's largest and oldest service organizations, with more than 1.4 million members in over 46,000 clubs across the globe. Founded in 1905, Rotary brings together people of action who use their skills, connections, and generosity to tackle challenges both at home and around the world—from providing clean water and fighting disease to promoting education, peace, and economic opportunity. Rotary is perhaps best known for its decades-long campaign to eradicate polio, an effort that has reduced cases worldwide by more than 99.9%.
Every Rotary club is local, but every club is also part of something global. When you support the Rotary Club of Somers, you're strengthening our town and contributing to a worldwide network of good.
Our Club
Our members are business and professional men and women from Somers and the neighboring communities, united by a common goal of serving both our local community and the wider world. We're a welcoming, down-to-earth group—people who like to roll up their sleeves, have some fun, and make a real difference close to home.
As part of Rotary District 7890, we work alongside dozens of clubs across northern Connecticut and central and western Massachusetts, sharing resources and partnering on projects that reach far beyond any single town.
Over the years, our club has built the Somers Community Center, installed flag poles, provided scholarships to graduating seniors, run the annual fishing derby, run the annual Easter egg hunt, cleared trails at Camp Ayopo, run the beer booth and concessions at the Four Town Fair, and much more.
What We Do
Service is at the heart of everything we do. Our work generally falls into a few key areas:
Community Service — Supporting local families, students, and organizations through volunteer projects, donations, and events right here in Somers.
Youth & Education — Investing in the next generation through scholarships, mentorship, and youth programs.
International Service — Partnering with Rotary clubs and The Rotary Foundation to support humanitarian projects around the world, including clean water, health, and Rotary's ongoing fight to end polio.
Fellowship — Building lasting friendships. Service is more rewarding—and more fun—when it's shared with good people.
